HSI Bloodborne Pathogens

This course teaches employees how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials. This course is designed to meet OSHA requirements for bloodborne pathogens training when paired with site-specific instruction.

Target Audience

Anyone who has a reasonable chance of coming into contact with bloodborne pathogens, such as correctional officers, childcare providers, security guards, maintenance personnel, employees of schools, hotel housekeepers, employees of health and fitness clubs, and tattoo artists, is eligible to enroll in the AHA Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Course.

To aid students in learning and remembering bloodborne pathogen training, this course employs the PACT acronym (Protect, Act, Clean, Tell) and tagline, "Make a PACT, Know How to ActTM."

Students pick up the skills necessary to:  

• Keep themselves safe from materials that contain blood or blood. 
• Take prompt, safe action. 
• Blood or materials containing blood should be cleaned up. 
• Inform their manager about the occurrence.
